Meet Jasmine Hammonds (she/her)

Professional Biography

Jasmine L. Hammonds is the Founder and Executive Director of The Obsidian Milk Collective, a Black-led nonprofit organization advancing lactation justice through the LATCH philosophy and LATCH to Systems framework. She also serves as Co-Director of the Alabama Cohosh Collaborative, where she leads statewide reproductive justice initiatives focused on improving access, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing health equity.

As a mother of four and a lactation professional, Jasmine recognized the need for greater representation within the lactation profession and for care that reflects the lived experiences of Black families. She believes representation is more than visibility. It builds trust, strengthens relationships, and helps families feel seen, heard, and supported throughout their reproductive and feeding journeys.

Drawing from both community-based and healthcare experience, Jasmine works across nonprofit, clinical, academic, and policy settings to strengthen systems of care, improve continuity throughout the reproductive journey, and expand access to culturally responsive lactation support. Her work has included collaborating with healthcare organizations, researchers, policymakers, reproductive healthcare professionals, and community leaders to advance sustainable solutions that improve maternal and infant health.

Through The Obsidian Milk Collective, Jasmine is building a future where Black families no longer have to search for representation or culturally responsive lactation care. They can expect it.
