The L.A.T.C.H Framework

Learn. Access. Thrive. Connect. Honor.

The L.A.T.C.H Framework is The Obsidian Milk Collective’s approach to putting Lactation Justice into practice.

Lactation does not happen in isolation. Feeding experiences are shaped by access to information and clinical care, the environments where families live and work, the people and systems surrounding them, and the histories and policies that influence whose needs are recognized and resourced.

L.A.T.C.H gives OMC a framework for addressing those conditions—not only supporting individual families, but transforming the systems that shape lactation access and outcomes.

LATCH in Action

The five elements of LATCH are interconnected.

A family may Learn through prenatal education and gain Access to clinical care.

That care may help them Thrive while connecting them to additional providers and community resources.

Their lived experience may teach us where a system failed, helping OMC advocate for changes that improve Access for the families who come next.

And throughout that work, we Honor the people, histories, knowledge, and experiences that brought us here.

LATCH guides how OMC provides clinical care, develops programs, educates communities, strengthens the lactation workforce, builds partnerships, collects stories, and advocates for systems change.

From Framework to Movement

Lactation Justice asks us to imagine a world in which people have the power, resources, care, protections, and environments necessary to make and carry out their own infant-feeding decisions.

LATCH gives us a way to build it.

Learn. Access. Thrive. Connect. Honor.

This is how we LATCH.
